Day Twenty:  Road to Kwando Camp on Kwando River

Enjoyed a more relaxing morning having breakfast out on the patio and taking in the scenery now that it was daylight.  Some horses wandered by the riverside below the balcony and a few of the group went down to visit them so we snapped away.

On the road at 9:30 am and again, was a straight stretch but a little more traffic this time and some big trucks to pass so our convoy got separated and we had to stop and regroup and agree on a speed limit to keep up to the leader who had set a fast pace.   Our car resumed the cryptic crosswords which really helped pass the time as the scenery was not anything like it had been in Naukluft Park or Etosha and there was no wildlife except for the odd cow crossing, goats on the road or burrows wandering aimlessly.

We had chosen to drive right through without a lunch stop but we did need to make a few gas stops and toilet breaks - as challenging in the gas stations as they are in the wild.

I drove for as long as I could then handed the reins over to Noel and he drove the last leg.  Again, our river camp, Kwando, was down a sandy, dusty road, this time past traditional villages with the locals waving at us as we drove by.   Kwando River Camp is right on the Kwando River which is a natural border between Namibia and Botswana.   Our little hut is right on the river with a little raised balcony maybe 3 feet above the river's edge.   Don't lean over if a hippo or croc is in the area!

It's hot here and humid.  36-41 degrees daily.  What little breeze there is off the river is delightful.  I couldn't wait to have a shower and change out of my two-day old clothes then head to the bar for what is becoming the drink of the trip - a refreshing G&T!  That and a delicious meal by the welcoming staff and we were ready to hit the hay as tomorrow will be an early morning game drive!

What animals will we see then???........JT
